Black Out

My friend, Paul, took a Polaroid of me on the island with this film which fades to black within 24 hours.  I thought this was an interesting gift in how it relates to the ephemeral nature of the trade we do on the island.  Here is a gif I made from the documentation of the process of its fade.

This made me think of an old Jimi Hendrix song, “Castles made of sand, melt into the sea, eventually.”

Just as we discussed, this is the antithesis of everything the photograph has come to stand for. Rather than a preservation of a point in time, it is perhaps a better representation of the human experience.
